PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can result from experiencing or witnessing a terrifying or overwhelming event. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. To be diagnosed with PTSD, an person must for at least one month have re-experiencing of the trauma, avoidance of situations that are reminiscent of the event, hyperarousal, and cognition and mood changes.

PTSD can greatly constrain a person's life by creating aversion or intense fear during certain situations that is difficult to overcome on ones own. For this reason, it is extremely helpful to receive therapy for this condition.

EMDR and Havening are two of the most highly effective techniques developed for treating PTSD. I am certified in both and I incorporate them into the therapy session along with other strategies for calming the nervous system and amplifying a sense of safety and well-being.
